1 City, 3 Vineyards, 8 Wines
First Stop: Riesling-Sylvaner
After the meeting, we enjoy light refreshments and sample the first wines from our host before setting off on a wine tour through the city of Zurich. On the way, our knowledgeable guide relates some fascinating facts from the almost 200-year history of the family business.
After a short time, we reach the Bürgli vineyard in Zürich-Enge, situated in a sunny and idyllic location behind the local church. The Riesling-Sylvaner grape variety is grown here, right in the middle of the city. In the vineyard, we learn all kinds of interesting things about the different grape varieties, how a cultivated vine is trained along wires, and the correct way to remove the grapes from the vine for tasting without damaging them. Of course, we also have the opportunity to sample the liquid end product.
As we let our gaze wander over the city, we can already glimpse the end point of our hike on the opposite side of Lake Zurich.
Sonnenberg – "The Sunny Hill"
We quickly cross the city center by tram and soon reach our next destination. Behind the residential district of Hottingen lies the fittingly named Sonnenberg vineyard. Here the Pinot Noir variety is cultivated, which we can sample in its natural and pressed form. The subsequent steep climb up through the vineyard is rewarded with a fantastic view over Zurich.
Delightful Finale on the Vinyard
The path then leads through quiet residential areas and shady woods to Riesbach. Awaiting us here is last but not least Burghalde, the most diverse of the vineyards in the city of Zurich. Here we finally reach our destination for the day – the Rebhüsli, a tiny house surrounded by countless vines. During a lavish apéro, we taste more wines and bring the day to a pleasurable close with a spectacular view of Lake Zurich.
Our conclusion: an extremely informative team event for wine lovers who like to combine knowledge with pleasure.
