Custorhaus in Eschenbach – a Historic Country House Becomes Space for Culture
The Custorhaus in Eschenbach looks back on an eventful history. Today it is a cultural venue.
In 1771 Josef Anton Custor commissioned the building of a smart country house in Eschenbach. This had an eventful history. Change of ownership, division into two detached houses and poor maintenance led to the decay of the once "most beautiful house in the country". After 1969 and the rejection of possible purchase by the population despite favorable conditions, Geberit AG stepped in with a last minute offer to rescue and restore it. 2007 saw the Custorhaus officially handed over to the municipality of Eschenbach and it has since been used for cultural, public and private events.
