K.I.S.S., Badenerstrasse

This building with its playful windows is striking, even from afar. But there’s even more behind them.

This residential complex, which recalls a Hundertwasser painting and contains 46 individually designed maisonettes, lies near the Letzigrund stadium in Zurich’s western district.

The northern facade, which looks onto Badenerstrasse, catches the eye immediately with its irregular windows in differently colored metal frames. But it has even more surprises in store. Take a peek around the back of the building and you’ll discover dozens of colorful balconies and terraces. Their cheerful shades, particularly seen in the glazed glass fronts and shutters, exude a sense of joy and friendliness.

Architecture fans will find that the rich bursts of color make a perfect photographic subject. But this striking building isn’t just residential: a major Swiss retailer as well as individual offices can be found on the ground floor.
