Paradeplatz – The Heart of Bahnhofstrasse
Paradeplatz is the heart of Bahnhofstrasse and an important tram junction near Lake Zurich. It was called "Säumärt" (pig market) in the 17th century, owing to a livestock market that took place regularly there. At the beginning of the 19th century, the name was changed to "Neumarkt" (New Market) due to an upswing in business – then again changed to "Paradeplatz" 50 years later.
Paradeplatz has made a name for itself as the largest financial transaction site in Switzerland since the time when large Swiss banks set up their main offices there. You can reach the old town of Zurich, Lake Zurich and Bahnhofstrasse from Paradeplatz. A branch of the confectionery company Sprüngli is also located there, where you can buy the popular "Luxemburgerli".
