“How to Work Better” by Fischli/Weiss
The Work
“How to Work Better” was painted on the façade of an office building near Oerlikon Station in 1991. While traveling through Thailand, Zurich artists Fischli/Weiss came across this list of motivational adages in a factory and with this work of art have adapted it in a Swiss context. It is, however, rather ironic that the people who work day after day in the office building cannot actually see the list on the façade outside.
Special Remarks
The artwork, which is as large as a house, is often not recognized as such, and certainly not as a painting by the famous artist duo, Fischli/Weiss. An exact replica of the Zurich original was also exhibited in Manhattan, New York in 2016.
Location
Binzmühlestrasse 14 in Oerlikon, in the north of Zurich
The Creators
Peter Fischli (born in1952) and David Weiss (1946 – 2012) belong to a generation of Zurich artists who have put Zurich back on the radar of the international art scene. In many ways, the character of their works reflects Zurich’s mentality: subtle humor and perceptive analysis of present-day philosophical questions.
