The James Joyce Foundation is an institution of international renown. It was established in view of keeping alive the memory and work of the Irish author. The spaces are open to the public and house a comprehensive library, precious first editions and numerous research resources. Reading groups as well as lectures and workshops regarding Joyce’s work and its influence on literary history are held regularly. Guided city tours are available upon request.
Zurich played an important role in the author’s life who spent his last years here and is buried in the Friedhof Fluntern cemetery (grave number 1449). To this day, his legacy is palpable in the city – be it at the iconic Kronenhalle, which he regularly visited during his lifetime or the James Joyce Restaurant & Bar that is reminiscent of the Irish pub culture with its original interior from Dublin.
