Letzigrund Stadium
The oval Letzigrund stadium with its striking floodlight pillars is clearly visible from all sides. It plays a significant role in the spheres of professional sports and major events in Zurich.
The current stadium opened in summer 2007. However, the origins of the stadium date back to 1925. Since its beginnings, it has served as the venue for soccer matches and the internationally renowned Weltklasse Zürich track and field meetings. In 1996, Letzigrund Stadium hosted its first open-air concert. Since then, world-famous musicians have regularly thrilled their fans here, including stars such as Beyoncé, the Rolling Stones and Coldplay, to name just a few.
The three group stage matches of the UEFA EURO 2008 soccer tournament are without doubt among the stadium’s sporting highlights. Since 2007, the city’s two rival soccer clubs, FC Zürich and Grasshopper Club Zürich, have played their home matches at Letzigrund.
