Bar Xenix

A bar in a school playground – where else can that be found other than in Zurich? The Kino Xenix has been an institution since 1984 and has evolved from a project by young film enthusiasts who wanted to screen politically and socially relevant movies. Still today, the program is carefully curated, and regular discussions with young talent and experienced filmmakers make an important contribution to the city’s dynamic movie culture.

The adjoining bar has also become a popular meeting place. People get together “auf dem Kies” (on the gravel) – as the locals say – in summer for an after-work drink, to play boules until late into the night, or to celebrate life in general in the heart of the city. But in winter, too, the alternative creative scene meets here to discuss everything under the sun, as well as the movie that is currently being shown.
